Blue Heron in flight (about to land on tree branch) in the Caribou Mountains of east Idaho. Echoing through the woods are the sounds of beaks snapping together, harsh croaks, screeching and the constant cackle of the little ones begging for food. It's the unmistakable ruckus of a Blue Heron Rookery. One nest after another seems precariously perched, anchored wherever possible between, above and below neighbors. An apartment complex of nesting pairs raising families, a city of noisy long-necked residents with each tree containing numerous suites. This particular rookery in east Idaho so far remains largely unknown and undisturbed.
