Derrick Cave provides an opportunity for photographic light painting revealing the textures and colors in this lava tube. Local history includes attempts to make a section of the cave a bomb shelter (an endeavor doomed to failure largely due to plunder) and early homesteaders used it as a recreation site. A cool respite from summer heat and a place to gather some ice.
